HOOKED BY ZIE CROTCHETS
Crotcheting is an art that many Malawians learn at a tender age but for Zizipizgani Kalua, founder of Hooked by Zie was inspired to take the craft to another level of entrepreneurship.
Blantyre based designer and 3rd year student at Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) says she started crotcheting at the age of ten and now it has become a serious business.

“My mother taught me how to crotch when i was doing my primary school education and at secondary school level i took it as a small business for but now i run my own brand,” she said.
Zizie started to knitting because she has always loved creating and that is what drove her to start up a business.
“I was inspired by the lack of existing suppliers of crotchet products at the time I started my business. The fact that people wanted crotchet clothes but had limited options of where to get them inspired me to start the business,” Zizie adds.
She aspires to have companies that focus on crocheting or knitting in Malawi for Malawians and exporting to other countries.
“I would love my business to be a reason for a fellow woman to have the same passion for making crotchet products so that the crotchet family grows,” she said.
Hooked by Zie designs and crotches any kind of fashion item ranging from dresses, skirts, suits, trousers, tops, hats and bags all produced used quality yarn.
Zizie further urged women and young girls to believe in their talents and strive for excellence.
